Vaiamonte, Portugal

Today I went to visit the man who founded Torre de Palma in February of 1947. For an 81 year old man, he certainly has a lot of clarity about where he excavated, who worked there, where certain areas were and their associated

find. His wife, who had grew up working next to the excavation at a site called the Monte, began to cry as they recalled the days when they were young, and as she mentioned, when she could remember things. They had not seen pictures from this period in their lives before and their recollections were meaningful and heartfelt.

Estremoz, Portugal

One day, a few years ago, I found this Christ at an outdoor market and if I had had the money, I would have bought it.  This is one of the most unique and bizarrely sensuous crucified figures I have ever seen.  Note the carved eyes where the  nipples and navel would be.

Exotic, pregnant, fecund.
